How to Make a Homemade Heating Pad
Homemade microwaveable heating pads are made from corn, rice or buckwheat hull. To make one you just need to construct a small sack from fabric and stuff it with the filler of your choice. Put the dry corn bag into a plastic freezer bag. Squeeze to remove excess air and seal closed. This helps keep your corn bag clean and dry during use.
Fold a piece of fabric 10 by 24 inches in half with the right sides facing each other. The new dimensions are 10 by 12 inches. Sew three sides closed; do not sew the fourth side. Use any fabric you like for the cover; decorative fabrics along with plush fabrics such as flannel and fleece work well.
Fold under the raw edge for the fourth side and sew it down so the raw edge is gone to create a cover or pillowcase for your homemade body warmer. Do not sew the fourth side closed.
Place your plastic bag with the bag of corn in it inside the decorative cover. Heat for one to two minutes on high in the microwave. Do not overheat your bag or leave it unattended while heating because it is flammable.
